Validaide at ISTA 2023: Connecting Lane Risk Assessments and Packaging Qualification.

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

Recently Validaide team joined the ISTA 2023 European Packaging Symposium held in Amsterdam on 27 and 28 September. Serena Toto and Bart Pouwels showcased our digital platform for data-driven Lane Risk Assessments and reflected on a great event that confirmed the increased focus on digitization in our industry.

ISTA stands for International Safe Transit Association and is a member-based non-profit that empowers organizations to minimize product damage throughout the supply chain and optimize resource usage through effective package design.

Our presentation on Data-Driven Lane Risk Assessments for Temperature-Sensitive Pharmaceutical Shipments showed how digitization, data sharing, and collaboration can accelerate the healthcare planning process, creating more efficiency, faster approval, and improving product quality and safety.

We discussed how the global logistics supplier capability database is combined with other data sources, such as logger data, historical weather data, flight statistics, etc., to create a detailed time plan for air freight and ocean shipments, providing detailed predictions of ambient temperature profiles.

Finally, we presented our latest addition to the Capabilities Platform - the Thermal Packaging Repository. This expansion will enable packaging companies to use Validaide to:

· Add their products in Validaide.

· Share their products with existing and potential customers.

· Share Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Lane Risk Assessments.

· Enhance the configuration of packaging solutions used in Lane Risk Assessments.

Serena Toto, the Product Owner at Validaide, comments: It was great to join the ISTA conference in Amsterdam and discuss relevant topics with people from the whole supply chain, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, and understand the key role the packaging plays in Lane Risk Assessments. Our presentation sparked engaging discussions on the role of packaging qualification, sustainability considerations, and the broader impact on Lane Risk Assessments”.

Validaide is looking forward to the next edition and to continue collaborating with packaging providers and logistic players to optimize and streamline the healthcare planning of temperature-sensitive products!

With this expansion, pharmaceutical manufacturers can now use Validaide as a central digital platform to:

  • View packaging products published by packaging providers.

  • Maintain a centralized list of approved packaging products

  • Store packaging qualification documents on Validaide.

  • Collaborate with business partners on digital Lane Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Bart Pouwels, Director of Business Development adds: "This was an excellent networking opportunity. There was a good mix of packaging providers, pharma manufacturers, and logistics service providers. All the speakers were senior-level. There was not a single commercial sales pitch as you see at most of the conferences. Very informative conference."
